FINALLY HERE!!!! Very long trip and very much culture shock but we are here. We arrived at Miami international last night at 9pm eastern time. We got to our hotel and ordered pizza after that then tried to catch some sleep. Then we awoke at 0330 and arrived at the airport at 415. Then we waited and our flight to Port-au-Prince left at 0645 eastern time. NOW for the exciting part. Once we got to Port au Prince it was insane crazy! We rode a bus to customs which was run out of a shop like building similar to my Dad's shop only about 4 times the size. Customs was a joke. Then we walked out and it reminded me of the red carpet. Only it was dirt and we were the celebrities. We found someone right away to take us to the "other" airport and we immediately had to jump into the mass of Haitians trying to take our bags and "carry" them for us. We knew better and kept saying "no" and holding tight to our stuff. It was really unnerving. We piled into a van and then drove down the street in Port-au-Prince and it was unbelievable how people live. The traffic was scary. When we pulled into the other airport there were large groups of men chasing the van wanting to be our helpers and carry our bags. We kept our heads down and held on tight to our stuff and made it inside safely. This airport was tiny and hot and stuffy!! We got there at 0845 and didn't fly out until after 1400. No where to sleep and the bathroom was interesting. But it was definately a learning experience! When we finally walked out to the planes I could not believe how SMALL our plane was. It was quite a ride. Really an awesome feeling to fly over those mountains. I could see little houses and shacks way up on mountains and I'm not sure how they live like that or how they even get anywhere b/c the mountains are so steep. I did think we were going to die when we landed that little sucker in a Since then I have been taking picutures and playing with the kids. It is beautiful here.
Love you Travis, Drew, and Isaac and miss you! Love you Mom and Dad. Happy Birthday and I love you too, Birdie. I love everyone else I left out and will update soon. Jennifer doesnt know here security code to the wifi so I'm not sure if I will get to upload pictures until I get home.
